Instacart is a grocery technology platform that enables customers to order groceries and household items from participating retailers for same-day delivery or pickup, fulfilled by personal shoppers.
The official website opens in a new tab.
About Instacart
Instacart partners with grocery chains, specialty retailers, and warehouse clubs including Kroger, Costco, Aldi, Publix, Whole Foods Market, and many others. Customers shop through the Instacart app or website, and a personal shopper picks the items in-store and delivers them, or prepares them for pickup.
Instacart+ (formerly Instacart Express) is a paid membership offering free delivery on eligible orders above a minimum subtotal and a reduced service fee. Instacart also offers prescription delivery from select pharmacy partners.

Who is it for
Instacart is popular with households that want to avoid in-store grocery shopping, busy families who want same-day grocery delivery, people who are mobility-limited or prefer delivery for convenience, and Instacart+ members who order groceries regularly from multiple retailers.
Getting started
Visit instacart.com or download the Instacart app. Enter your zip code to see available retailers in your area.
Select a store you shop at regularly. Add items to your cart as you would on any grocery website. You can search by product name or browse by category.
At checkout, choose between delivery (with a time window) and pickup. Review the delivery fee, service fee, and item pricing before confirming.
Consider Instacart+ if you order frequently. The membership pays for itself if you place regular deliveries from eligible stores.
Common questions
Not always. For some retailers, Instacart displays the same prices as in store. For others, Instacart markup pricing applies, where item prices are higher than in-store prices. The price difference varies by retailer. Instacart shows the price you will pay at checkout, so you can review before ordering.
Instacart+ (formerly Instacart Express) is a paid membership that offers free delivery on eligible orders over a minimum subtotal from participating retailers, a reduced service fee, and family account sharing for up to five people. It is available as a monthly or annual subscription. Visit instacart.com for current pricing.
Instacart generally processes each store as a separate order, so shopping from two different retailers may result in two separate deliveries and two separate sets of fees. Some retailers are linked within the Instacart platform and may allow mixed-cart orders, but this varies. Check the app for your local availability.
